4th year - Watch, listen and understand

Last Thursday we did a listening comprehension in which a journalist and biologist talked about conservationism and wild life. Dian Fossey and the film "Gorillas In the Mist" are both mentioned as a reference. I have found a very interesting video, a mini documentary by the BBC in which Sigourney Weaver (the star in "Gorillas In the Mist") visits Rwanda and the gorillas twenty years after the filming of the movie. Click here to watch the video.
Vocabulary:
  • To pose no threat: To mean no danger
  • Keeping an eye on us: Watching us
  • For a split second: an extremely small amount of time
  • Mesmerizing moment: so attractive or interesting that you do not notice or pay attention to anything else around you

Watch the video and answer the following questions:

  1. Why is it not allowed to come very close to the gorillas at present?

  2. How far and how long should visitors to gorillas be at the place?
  3. What other rule does Sigourney mention?

  4. How many gorillas did there use to be when Sigourney Weaver first was in the area?

  5. How many are there in the group Sigourney Weaver is watching?

  6. What is the name of the gorilla Sigourney Weaver recognizes?

  7. What do the gorilla and Sigourney have in common at present?

Click here to see the answers to the questions.
