Fourth year - just an interesting note

This past week we did a listening exercise about the American dollar and some of its less known facts. Do you remember that you could trace a dollar if you entered the serial number of a dollar bill on a website called "Where's George?". Out of curiosity I checked the site and it does exist and you can see an example of the itinerary a dollar bill follows. People actually take their time to enter the serial numbers of their notes and even leave comments about where they got the money. Click here to see the example. I think it's quite curious to say the least.

Fourth year. Listening: Centralization of money

Click here to watch a video on the centralization of money in America and answer the questions below.

Vocabulary:
- mint: a place where a country makes its coins and paper money

- Comstock Lode: The major US discovery of silver ore
- BEP: Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

Questions:

1. What was the monetary situation in USA when Thomas Jefferson became secretary of state?

2. Who controlled the nation's currency?

3. Why were so many varieties of bills circulating?

4. What problem was added when gold was discovered in Georgia?

5. Who was Templeton Reid? Why is he important?

6. What did Congress do in 1838?

7. What is the FED?
